Today starts the Conference of the Parties 29 (COP29), the UN’s summit to accelerate global action to address climate change will be held until the 22nd of November, in Baku, Azerbaijan.

What themes are we expect to make the headlines?

  • Evolution of climate policy
Explore key climate policy milestones and COP contributions. A crucial COP29 focus is ambitious, transparent commitment plans.
  • Adaptation: recent disastrous weather effects will put physical climate risk and resilience on the agenda
  • Analyze the strategies and commitments made to enhance global resilience to climate change impacts, focusing on vulnerable regions and communities
  • Achieving inclusive closure of the net-zero financing gap
Finance plays a crucial role in transforming ambition into actionable strategies. Can the world’s nations find the money needed to end the climate crisis?

Just a week after Republicans won on the white house, the senate and the congress, this conference will be held in the shadow of eroding faith in the cooperation around climate change. The year 2024 will almost certainly be the hottest year on record according to data from the European service Copernicus. Leaders and private sectors will gather to central Asia to address the collective efforts to achieve the Paris Agreement objectives adopted in 2015 (COP21) to avoid even more catastrophic effects of climate change such as droughts, heatwaves or torrential rains.

We will explore these topics extensively throughout the conference, with the anticipation that significant progress will and needs to be achieved in each area.
